Ask what support is available before ordering equipment or agreeing to building work. Your location, the proposed change and the assessment all matter.
Start in your nation
- England: Disabled Facilities Grants on GOV.UK.
- Wales: ENABLE and Disabled Facilities Grants.
- Scotland: Care equipment and home adaptations.
- Northern Ireland: Disabled Facilities Grants through the Housing Executive route.
These are different systems. Don't use an England-only summary to decide what support you can get elsewhere.
Prepare before applying
Read our DFG introduction or use the council help signposter. Neither decides eligibility or estimates an award.
Keep a note of the work you need, who has assessed it and whether you rent or own your home. Ask the responsible service which permissions and documents it needs, and wait for written approval where required.
VAT relief: check the official rules
VAT relief may apply to some disability products and services, but both the purchase and the circumstances must qualify. Ask the supplier and read GOV.UK's VAT relief guidance. Cedarstep does not decide whether a purchase qualifies.
This is general information, not financial or tax advice. Rules change, so check GOV.UK or speak to a qualified adviser.
